NOW ON YOUTUBE: Engineering Prowess Reinforces Vaults from 1695
Mini-documentary / Des prouesses de l'ingénierie pour consolider des voûtes de 1695 (In French only)
The vaults of the Hôtel-Dieu de Québec monastery were created by François de Lajouë in 1695 and are among the oldest in North America. In addition to their centuries of regular use by the Augustinian Sisters, the vaults were also the stage for a number of historic events.
While carrying out plans to make the vaults accessible to the public (as part of the project Le Monastère des Augustines), engineers accomplished a number of feats in order to reinforce them, without compromising in any way their beauty or their unique atmosphere.
