DISCOVER AN ARTEFACT: PROCESSION BANNER FROM 1908
Procession banner displaying the words Notre Dame des Anges / Priez pour nous (“Our Lady of Angels / Pray for us”) used by the Augustinian Sisters of l’Hôpital Général de Québec as part of the celebrations for the three hundredth anniversary of the City of Quebec in 1908.
Most probably made by the sisters, the silk banner has golden trim and cannetille embroidery.
Collection: Hôpital Général de Québec monastery---The heritage of the Augustinian Sisters’ 12 monastery-hospitals includes a remarkable collection of 40 000 artefacts and 1 linear kilometer of old books. The project Le Monastère des Augustines, which is scheduled to open in 2015, aims at, among other things, gathering together, protecting and showcasing this outstanding heritage.
